Then gather the documents the bank asks for, choose a scheduled bank such as BRAC Bank, City Bank, or Eastern Bank, complete the know your customer checks, and fund the opening balance. Some banks offer electronic KYC and app onboarding, for example City Bank, though business accounts often still need verification at a branch. Confirm the current process with your chosen bank.

The steps in order

  1. Register the business with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms for a company, or obtain a trade license for a sole proprietorship or partnership.
  2. Get a TIN, and a VAT registration or BIN where your activity requires it.
  3. Prepare the documents the bank asks for, including the registration papers and signatory identity.
  4. Choose a scheduled bank and an account type that suits how you will operate.
  5. Complete the know your customer checks, in branch or through electronic KYC where offered.
  6. Fund the opening balance and collect your cheque book, card, and online banking access.

What documents you need

Requirements vary by entity type, but a business account commonly needs the registration papers, the trade license, and the TIN, as of 20 May 2026. Verify with the bank

  • For a company, the certificate of incorporation, the memorandum and articles, and a board resolution naming the account signatories.
  • The trade license and, where applicable, the VAT registration or BIN.
  • The TIN of the business and the identity documents and photographs of the signatories and beneficial owners.

Where digital onboarding helps

Several banks now run electronic KYC and app based onboarding for faster account opening. City Bank is among those offering eKYC. Even where the start is digital, a business account often needs document verification and signatures completed at a branch, so plan for a branch visit. Confirm the current digital options with the bank.
