A startup in Bangladesh opens a company current account in the business name once the entity is registered. A private limited company registers with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, while a sole proprietorship or partnership uses a trade license. The bank then asks for the registration papers, trade license, TIN, and signatory identity. Banks such as BRAC Bank, City Bank, and Eastern Bank offer current accounts with app based onboarding, and BRAC Bank opens its PRAPTI account at a minimum balance of BDT 1,000 as of 13 November 2025. Local payments run through cards and mobile financial services such as bKash and Nagad, while overseas revenue uses Payoneer and foreign investment comes in through an authorised dealer bank. Wise Business is not available to Bangladesh based businesses. Confirm current terms with each provider.

What Startups in Bangladesh need from a business account

A startup wants fast onboarding, a low or zero opening balance, clean records for investors and tax, local payment collection, and a route to receive money from abroad if it sells or raises overseas. Predictable costs matter while revenue is small. A domestic current account with digital onboarding covers the home market, while Payoneer and an authorised dealer bank cover cross border revenue and investment. As of 13 November 2025.

Bringing in foreign investment

Foreign equity is brought into Bangladesh through an authorised dealer bank, and the inward remittance is reported so the shareholding is recognised. A non resident investor can use a Non Resident Investors Taka Account to bring funds in and remit dividends and sale proceeds abroad. Because the route is regulated under exchange control, plan the flow with your bank before closing a round. Verify the current process with the bank, as of 13 November 2025.

BRAC Bank
A large private commercial bank popular with small companies for its PRAPTI current account, which opens at a minimum balance of BDT 1,000 and pays interest on the daily balance. It also acts as an authorised dealer for foreign currency and investment flows. Confirm current terms with the bank.

A low cost company current account at launch

About BDT 300 half yearly maintenance plus VAT, as of 13 November 2025.
Payoneer
Receives money from clients, platforms, and marketplaces abroad into local currency receiving accounts, then withdraws to a Bangladesh bank account. It suits a startup earning early revenue overseas, but it is a receiving tool rather than a domestic current account.
Best for
Receiving early revenue from clients abroad
Fee
Free to open. Receiving and conversion fees apply, as of 13 November 2025.
