What Crypto and Web3 in Hungary need from a business account

Crypto and Web3 companies in Hungary need a euro and forint account for operating costs, payroll and supplier payments, and clarity on whether their activity is permitted. From 1 July 2025 Hungary added criminal provisions for unauthorised crypto asset exchange, and a national validation certificate requirement took effect on 27 December 2025. The European Commission opened an infringement proceeding over alignment with the European Union markets in crypto assets regulation, known as MiCA, under which the Magyar Nemzeti Bank, the central bank, supervises crypto asset service provider licensing. Following the 2026 elections the government moved to drop the criminal penalties and realign with MiCA, with replacement legislation in progress. Because the position is changing, treat the providers below as a starting point and confirm both the current law and provider acceptance.
