Switching a business bank account in Egypt

Snapshot

Egypt has no national account switching service that moves payments and balances for you, so changing business bank comes down to a manual move. As of 26 June 2026 the new account needs the same documents as a fresh opening, including the Commercial Register certificate and Tax Card, and the safe approach is to run both accounts in parallel while you redirect incoming payments, move standing instructions, and update suppliers, customers, and the tax authority before you close the old account.

Switching a business bank account in Egypt is a manual process, because there is no national switch service that moves payments and balances automatically. As of 26 June 2026 you open the new account as if from scratch, with the Commercial Register certificate, Tax Card, and signatory documents, then run both accounts in parallel while you redirect incoming payments, recreate standing instructions, and update suppliers, customers, payroll, and the Egyptian Tax Authority. Only close the old account once everything has moved and cleared. Confirm each step and any fees with both banks.

Why switching is manual

Some countries run an automated switch service that moves direct debits and incoming payments for you. As of 26 June 2026 Egypt does not, so a business that changes bank manages the move itself. The new account opens through the same document and Know Your Customer steps as any new business account, so allow time for that before you start redirecting money. Verify with the provider

Run both accounts in parallel

The lower risk path is to keep the old account open while the new one beds in. As of 26 June 2026 a typical sequence is to open and fully activate the new account, share the new details with customers and marketplaces that pay you, recreate standing instructions and recurring transfers, move payroll, and watch for incoming payments that still land in the old account. Reconcile both for a period so nothing is missed.

What to update before closing

Before closing the old account, update the bank details held by suppliers, customers, payment processors, and payroll, and tell the Egyptian Tax Authority and any platform that pays or charges the company. As of 26 June 2026 clear any pending or held transactions, make sure foreign currency arrangements carry over where needed, and confirm there are no fees or minimum balance conditions tied to closure. Confirm the closing steps with the old bank.

We do not list a business account that is confirmed available to companies registered in Egypt as of 26 June 2026. Egyptian banks such as Banque Misr, the National Bank of Egypt, and Commercial International Bank set their own onboarding requirements under Central Bank of Egypt rules, and most international account providers do not offer a full local corporate account to Egypt registered companies. Payoneer is available in Egypt for receiving cross border payments and withdrawing to a local bank, but it is not a replacement for a domestic business account. See the related guides below, and verify any option directly with the provider. More country detail is on the Egypt country guide.
