To open a business account in Bulgaria you first register the company in the Commercial Register and receive a unified identification code. For a capital company you open a capital deposit account at a licensed bank, pay in the share capital and collect the certificate the register requires. After registration you open the main current account with the company documents, manager identification and an ultimate beneficial owner declaration. Since Bulgaria joined the euro area on 1 January 2026, accounts are held in euro. Figures below are shown as of 22 June 2026.

The steps to open a business account in Bulgaria

The process has two banking moments. The first is the capital deposit account, used only to pay in share capital and obtain the certificate for the Commercial Register, which must be at a licensed bank. The second is the main business current account, opened once the company is registered and the UIC is issued. Digital providers such as Revolut Business and Wise Business serve the second step and open online, but they cannot hold the capital accumulation account. Traditional banks such as UniCredit Bulbank, DSK Bank and Postbank handle both.

Register the company first

Register the company in the Commercial Register, which commonly takes a few business days, after which you receive the UIC. For a capital company such as an EOOD or OOD, open a capital deposit account, pay in the share capital, which can be a small minimum, and the bank issues a certificate you submit with the registration. Confirm the exact minimum and the certificate process with the bank, since they vary.

Open the current account

With the company registered, open the main current account. Banks typically ask for the company registration extract and UIC, the articles of association, identification for the manager and authorized signatories, and an ultimate beneficial owner declaration. Compliance teams may request proof of business activity and a source of funds declaration, more often for foreign owned companies. Simple cases often take about 5 to 14 working days, while complex structures can take several weeks. Verify the current requirements with the provider.

Documents to prepare

Gather these before you apply, since a complete file speeds up the review. Verify the exact list with the provider, as of 22 June 2026

  • Company registration extract and the UIC, the unified identification code, plus the articles of association.
  • Identification for the manager and any authorized signatories, and an ultimate beneficial owner declaration.
  • Where requested, proof of business activity such as contracts or invoices, and a source of funds declaration, more common for foreign owned companies.

How to move through it efficiently

  1. Choose where the capital deposit account will sit, since it must be a licensed bank, and confirm the minimum share capital and certificate process.
  2. Register the company, obtain the UIC, then prepare the full document file for the current account, including the ultimate beneficial owner declaration.
  3. Apply for the current account and respond quickly to any compliance request, since incomplete files are the main cause of delay. Confirm the current process with the provider.
