Kontist is a German banking and tax service for freelancers, sole traders and companies that are resident and tax registered in Germany, and verification needs a German address and a German phone number. A business registered only in India cannot open a Kontist account.

Does Kontist serve business customers in India?

No. Kontist, now operated together with Shine, provides a euro business account with built in tax estimation for self employed people, sole traders and company forms such as GmbH, UG and GbR in Germany. To open an account you must reside in Germany with an official registration, file your taxes in Germany and verify your identity using a German phone number, and for incorporated companies the registered office must be a business address in Germany and the legal representatives must not be taxable in the United States. There is no eligibility path for an India registered business because Kontist requires German residence, a German business or tax registration and German identity verification. An India based founder could only qualify by establishing residence and a registered business in Germany and meeting the German requirements, after which the account is a German one rather than an Indian one.
